Oliver, Executive Committee Member of the Horsham Historical Society will be joining us to give us a talk on the local history of our home town Horsham, here are a few words from Oliver to give you a taste of the talk he will be giving:

Let’s look at the story of Horsham leading up to the present and ponder some future challenges. The story might begin with the first mention of the town in 947 CE though the traces of human activity in our area go back a long way further than that.

We’ll find women who played a role on the national stage and had close connections to Horsham; we’ll range from the Normans ,their language and shrewd administration to Horsham hosting many non-conformist churches, to the huge upheaval of the railways, to-day’s commuters and communities.

Along with the rest of the UK we face serious change and problems, as well as opportunities locally and we can speculate what sort of town Horsham might be in a hundred years’ time.

Your speaker comes from the Horsham Society, has lived in Horsham for nigh on forty years and his wife is indeed a rarity, she’s Horsham born and bred.

If you are not a member you are still welcome to come along, your first meeting is free.
